The button, called "Insert Options," has a small paintbrush on it, similar to the Format Painter tool. When you insert any of these, Excel displays a small, floating "button" right near the inserted row, column, or cell. ![]() This entry was posted in Weblog on by Robbert Bloem.Excel includes a feature that allows you to modify how you insert rows, columns, or cells in your worksheet. When somebody says “windows” I still first think of computers ↩ (3) I learned “windows, the operating system” before “windows, the rectangular thingies that you can look through”. (2) If you don’t give a version I assume it is still Windows XP ↩ (1) If we are nitpicking: that is not completely true, I wrote my resumé in Pages. M: “Sure, it is all over the place in physics textbooks” M: “Sure, this is pi, that is a delta and there is an h-bar” Or do you want me to do hacks in the registry? In that case… nope. It is named after what you will throw your computer through after a frustrating afternoon (3)Ĭlearly, I’m a Windows-expert.If you can find Control-Alt-Delete on your keyboard, you’ll be fine. There is a big “Start” button in the lower left corner (2).Let’s repeat the exercise: what do you want me to know about Windows? Prerequisites: knowledge of Microsoft Windows and flow charts. Today we got an email at work for an introductory course in a programming language. In that case: do I know Word? Not really. They should be able to make templates and macros and stuff like that. When somebody says they know Word I at least expect them to be good at it. I mean damnit: I emailed you a good-looking resumé, I didn’t send you a handwritten one by carrier pigeon.I know how to type text and save a document. My question is really different: if I say that I know Word, what exactly do you think I know? Recently I was updating my resumé and stumbled upon an old problem: do you include that you know software like Word? When you ask around you hear two opinions: half of the people say “yes, why not?” and the other half answers “no, it looks stupid”. This entry was posted in Weblog on by Robbert Bloem. With my spreadsheet the results were immediately known and we had to wait for the people to finish showering after sporting :) Good times! ↩ In previous years it was done by hand and the spotters had to wait for hours until the organization was done. (1) UPDATE: I realized that I made a large Excel spreadsheet to calculate the results for a large sporting tournament. But do I include Blender? I’m proud of my animation, however crude. That should be the threshold for what I put in my résumé: can I be proud of it? Is it a skill that I’m proud of? Did I make something that I’m proud of? MS Word and Excel: can I work with it? Sure. Can I make something that I’m proud of? Nope. Case III: paint brushĬan I handle a paint brush? Yep. It is so incredibly cool that we can nowadays download this kind of software for free, read some online tutorials and just make things. Laser pulses that cast a subtle red light glow on their environment? Check. Fancy beam splitters that are partially transparent? Check. So I made an animation of my 2D-IR setup. This weekend I decided to start playing around with Blender, an open source program to make 3D-animations (as in: real movies). (this link is worth a visit just because of the image at the top of the post). Right-click the border of the SmartArt graphic shape that you want to remove a picture or clip art from. And these guys screwed the world by making a typo in an Excel calculation. If youve added pictures or clip art to your SmartArt graphic, you can remove them by changing the Fill setting for the shape that contains the picture or clip art. …hold it there! This guy made an entire game in Excel using macros. I know that you enter “=” before a formula.A week ago I wrote about what people expect when you put things in your résumé.
